Adventure Playground – Yellow Box Way, Bletchington

According to some of our Central West Mums, we’ve reviewed some of the playgrounds in the Orange LGA with some items considered like accessibility, equipment, shelter, toilets and more.  Adventure Playground has to be the number one family friendly play area in Orange. There are options for the little and big kids alike. Set beside the Botanical Gardens, it is not uncommon to catch a glimpse of kangaroos in the land beside the playground.

There are loads of sheltered picnic tables for the parents/carers to sit and supervise their kids. These include BBQs so are the ideal space for a get together or party. There are also little tree house type buildings within the playground itself to keep a closer watch.

What ages is this playground suitable for?

All ages up to around 15 years of age.

There are lots of places for a two year old to explore in one section has baby, little kid and ‘regular’ sized swings, small toddler sized slides plus a cute little ‘shop’. My daughter especially enjoys the photographs of animals around the fences inside this section.

In another section there are monkey bars, climbing features, funky mirrors, and plenty of balancing apparatus. Older kids can challenge their strength and agility by also attempting to parkour there.

There is a perfect bike track for scooters, trikes and small bikes, incorporating lanes and a round about. Note: In September/October – Beware of the swooping magpie!

Accessibility

There is a dedicated accessible swing for those in wheelchairs and a larger swing with buckles and handles for those who require extra assistance with swinging.  Whilst the playground feels enclosed, it is not entirely fenced off. It is sectioned well however.

Comfort & Shelter

The shade sails provide some protection from the heat of the day, but unfortunately don’t appear to stop too much rain.

The toilet facilities do leave a lot to be desired. When I visited (and times previously) there was no soap or lighting. The only change table available to change my daughter was so unsafe, so I had to use the grassed section. They also didn’t open the facilities until a few hours after the park itself was opened.

There are water fountains for drinking, but unfortunately no cafe, Patmos Café has closed so there were no coffee options within walking distance. There does seem to be some work happening in its place so watch this space.
