Bringing Sustainable Fashion To The Central West

Bringing Sustainable Fashion To The Central West Credit: Book Orange

Browsing fashion with friends, a glass of sparkling wine in hand, all for a good cause… What could be better?

According to Inside Waste, each Australian contributes an average of 23kg of textiles to landfill each year with substantial environmental impacts. Local business Book Orange is helping our region to counteract this trend by inviting women from all backgrounds and of all ages, shapes and sizes to participate in the Pre-Loved Market Day.

Book Orange’s inaugural Pre-Loved Market Day will be held Sunday November 21 from 12-4pm at the South Court area of the Civic Precinct on Byng Street, between Groundstone and the library. Ladies are invited to clear out and renew their wardrobes, and their children’s wardrobe for the Spring and Summer season by swapping or selling their pre-loved fashion and accessories.

Bec Hammond, project manager at Book Orange, said that the Pre-Loved Market Day was particularly important after the difficulties of lockdown.

“COVID-19 lockdowns and travel restrictions have made life hard for a lot of people,” Bec said. “The market event aims to give people a reason to smile by having something to look forward to, connecting with like-minded people and for stall-holders, a chance to earn some decent cash!”

Sparkling wine, Spilt Milk gelato, Groundstone coffee and food, plus free live music will be available to build a positive social atmosphere.

On the day, Book Orange will be raising funds for The Orchard, a project managed by Housing Plus that provides a safe haven for women and children escaping domestic violence.

“We chose The Orchard because it’s purpose-built using trauma informed design,” Bec explained. “Housing Plus is committed to ensuring women and children experiencing domestic and family violence in Orange have access to accommodation and support to help keep them safe in their community.”

The event is registered as COVID safe and all precautions will be in place to meet government requirements. In the case of bad weather or COVID lockdowns, the event will be postponed to later in the year.

Entry to the market is just $5 and kids are free! Tickets are essential to monitor crowd numbers and maintain COVID safe practices. You can book tickets via our events calendar here.

Stall holders can claim a place by email or phone. An individual stall holder fee is $70 and a business stall holder fee is $130, and their earning potential is limited only by the number and quality of items available for sale. Stall holders will be able to participate in a swap meet with other stall holders prior to the market opening to the public. To register as a stall holder please email bechammond@bookorange.com.au or click on the link here.

The Pre-Loved Market Day is an event that will bring women together from all walks of life to share their love of fashion in a sustainable way.
