Orange literally has 100’s of amazing historic landmarks and places of interest to explore, and Central West Mums is running a holiday drawing competition to celebrate these iconic places.

A holiday adventure in our colourful backyard

Follow your nose using Central Western Daily’s link Extraordinary historic places in Orange NSW(compiled by photographers Carla Freedman and William Davis) to walk, hop or skip your way to the heritage homes and business-houses that are the foundations of our city.

Enjoy learning about the beautiful architecture of mansions like Duntryleague and the civic buildings now housing OCTEC and the railway station; visit elegant Cook Park; see where we remember our fallen heroes; find an abandoned hospital and a 100-year old power pole; visit the legendary Gnoo Blas race track, and admire the Dalton Stores, Post Office and other historic buildings from the 1800s still in use today.

You might need a bike or car for some of these…but you get the idea.

Pencils at the ready

CWMs are inviting entries of original coloured and/or lead pencil drawings of these extraordinary landmarks in A4 size to be judged by Orange’s own children’s book illustrator Freya Blackwood. Winners of the various categories will receive a signed copy of one of Freya’s gorgeous books – something you’ll want to treasure.

Hmmm…. is that coffee I smell??

For some extra enjoyment try stopping at one of the many good cafes along the trail for coffee and snacks; it might turbo-fuel your youngster’s inner Freya – or yours!
