Helen Barnett Dietitian (APD) and Nutritionist

I am Nutritionist, Intuitive Eating Coach and Dietitian located within 3 practices throughout the central west: Colour City Medical Practice in Orange; Psych Solutions in Orange and in Dubbo NSW. I predominantly work in the areas of Eating Disorders (Anorexia, Bulimia, Binge Eating and OSFED/EDNOS, body dysmorphic disorder, body image concerns), Gastrointestinal Issues (IBS, IBD, Coeliac Disease, SIBO, Parasites, Food Intolerances, chronic diarrhoea, constipation), Nutrigenomics (DNA Nutrition Panel Testing), PCOS, Insulin Resistance and Diabetes, Sports Nutrition and ADHD/Autism.

I am a Health at Every Size aligned and Non-diet dietitian with a strong interest in social justice and how health and diet impacts our mental, physical, social, emotional and "spiritual" well-being (whatever that means for you). I come from a place of non-judgement and inclusivity with a keen desire to understand your perspective and journey, yet do not want to "fix" you - rather want to help you on your own journey towards health, personal growth and understanding. In many ways, I believe this can only come from a relationship that is fostered and built on genuine trust and mutual understanding, collaboration and mutually agreed goals.

I have an uncomplicated approach to food and health, and I combine this with a detailed understanding of the science behind both nutrition and human physiology to give you the most up-to date recommendations so you can make the best decisions for your health. I am passionate about helping my clients develop self-compassion in a rapidly changing world and learn to love themselves so they can nourish and feed themselves in a caring and kind way. I am fascinated by the psychology behind human behaviour and am more interested in my clients' relationship with food than prescribing another meal plan. I believe that I am more helpful as a guide rather than an authoritative figure due to the way this sets up the different psychological states and reactions towards food (and behaviour), and so hope to come from a place of curiosity when working with my clients.

As an Evidence-based clinician I am constantly learning and love to share this knowledge with my clients in the spirit of openness and collaboration.
