Aloha! Waikiki, Hawai’i is the perfect destination for a getaway with girlfriends. Particularly if you are meeting a friend like I did from the northern hemisphere. My girlfriend Nic flew from Vancouver, Canada and joined me for an epic celebration. It’s the kind of ‘book and go’ destination where planning this holiday doesn’t quite require endless research. It’s so effortless and convenient that you can step off the plane and dive straight into relaxation mode – and we have found just the place to stay in the heart of Waikiki.

Hawai’i offers many experiences across the islands of Oahu, Maui, Kauai and the Big Island. You can seek out many activities and unique landscapes including outdoor adventures, history and culture, luxury and relaxation. Waikiki is a beachfront neighbourhood located in Honolulu on the south shore of the island of Oahu. Waikiki offers a dynamic and bustling vibe offering a great balance of beaches, city life, history, culture, outdoor activities and shopping.

For the ultimate ladies’ getaway, look no further than the luxurious Halepuna Waikiki paired with the serene SpaHalekulani. I have travelled to Waikiki a number of times now and stayed at different resort hotels each time and the Halepuna Waikiki is in an extraordinarily special location.

Where to Stay: Halepuna Waikiki

My friend Nicole and I booked an ocean view room (check out our view from our room below). UMI by Vikram Garg restaurant on the ground floor offers a generous breakfast menu to enjoy or you can order delightful, curated breakfast boxes to your room from Halepuna marketplace. For lunch and dinner, there are so many choices just steps away. Sister hotel Halekulani offers a variety of dining options, from the elegant La Mer, which serves exquisite French cuisine with Hawaiian flair, to Orchids, known for its seafood and spectacular ocean views and House Without A Key, for all-day dining, sunset cocktails, and nightly Hawaiian music and hula dance.

Afternoon tea at the Veranda is a must, providing a charming setting to sip tea and nibble on delicate sandwiches and sweets,(limited seating so best to reserve a table in advance).

Activities and Relaxation

Between spa visits and gourmet meals, take some time to explore the local area. Although the main Waikiki Beach is just steps away, we discovered a small pocket of golden sands and channel of crystal-clear waters in-between coral, which is just across the road from the back entrance of Halepuna in front of the Halekulani hotel. It is perfect for swimming, paddleboarding, or simply lounging in the sun. Conveniently located to take a dip when staying at Halepuna or Halekulani hotel. Refer to this magical beach location here. For a bit of adventure, consider a catamaran cruise or a hike up Diamond Head for breathtaking views. Visiting Pearl Harbor is a powerful and humbling experience, offering a poignant glimpse into history through it’s memorials and museums that honour those who served during World War II. We visited the USS Bowfin and the Pacific Fleet Submarine Museum.

Back at the hotel, the fitness centre and yoga classes at Halepuna Waikiki are perfect for staying active. Alternatively, spend a lazy afternoon by the pool with a good book and a refreshing drink from the poolside bar. Every morning you can join in the complimentary walking meditation, yoga or stretch classes on offer to guests of Halepuna and Halekulani Hotels.

If you want to explore O’ahu island, you can enjoy a Tesla experience where you can pick up and drop off at Halepuna which is so convenient.

What we loved about our stay:

• Arrival at Halepuna foyer adorned with beautiful art by local artists
• The world-class friendly service we received at Halepuna and Halekulani
• Stunning view from our Deluxe Ocean View room
• The complimentary Halepuna water bottle in room where you can fill it with the sustainable refilling station for Hawaiian filtered water
• Floating in “healing waters” Kawehewehe at Gray’s Beach which fronts Halekulani which is across the road from Halepuna.  Particularly loved the spotting of rare endangered Hawaiian monk seals that came up for a lovely rest on the beach. This was a magical spot. 
• Lunch with signature cocktails at House Without A Key, Halekulani – Tip: Ask for the House Kabayaki Fries (French fries with teriyaki sauce, furikake, tobiko, Kewpie Mayonnaise, and garlic chips). Recommended: The signature Mai Tai, and the Gable cocktail (Fresh cucumber juice, pineapple cordial, fresh lemon and aloe juices, mango ice).
• Photo opportunity in front of the over 130 year old Kiawe tree at Halekulani Hotel which just “leaned over in 2016: and is continuing to thrive. The fallen branches has been preserved and can be seen in the foyers of both Halepuna and Halekulani hotels.
• SpaHalekulani – we indulged in the heavenly Halekulani massage and Knesko facial with reflexology on head, neck and shoulders.
• A BIG PLUS! Loved all the amenities at Halepuna Waikiki with no Resort Fees
