We recently travelled to Hamilton Island with our 18 month old for a holiday. If you have not been you absolutely must.
We stayed in an airbnb so that we had a little more space for our toddler to explore. The accommodation came with a golf buggy for transport which was fabulous, You can also hire them and add children’s car seats as an option. We also hired a cot and high chair so that we did not have to haul too much through the airport.
I strongly suggest you book these hire items at least one month or more in advance. In addition, my tip is to make dinner reservations in this time frame or as soon as you book your flights.
A lot of people we spoke with on the island did not know this and they arrived; and were stuck securing a golf buggy or a last minute dinner reservation.
Alternatively, if you do not want to dine out, there are easy options like takeaway pizza or fish & chips. We enjoyed heading up to One Tree Hill, grabbing a drink from the outdoor bar and taking in the sensational sunset from around 3:00-7:30pm.
An attractive quality about the island, is you can do as little or as much as you like whilst there. There is a large pool with swim up bar for amazing cocktails, mini golf, Koala feeding, snorkelling, diving, jet ski tours, amazing walking trails, day-trips to Whitehaven beach, fishing charters, and yoga classes at the Sports Club.
There is also a babysitting service you can access by the Hamilton island website along with a lot of other services you can book www.hamiltonisland.com.au
My tip is to also download the Hamilton Island ‘travel’ app on your phone well before arriving and this will help you to find out everything that is on each day, where to eat, walking tracks, and where to stay.
