16 days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence will begin on Monday 25 November and, for the second year, Orange City Council is showing its support for the international campaign, which calls for an end to violence against women and girls.

Orange City Council Services Policy Committee Chair Cr Marea Ruddy said the United Nations estimates one in three women experience domestic violence in their lifetime.

“Orange City Council strongly supports the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign. I’m grateful we can work together with local organisations to shine the spotlight on such a major problem, locally and around the world,” Cr Ruddy said.

Orange City Council events will be held cross the 16 days of Activism:

  • Monday 25 November: Twilight Vigil, 6.30pm, South Court.
  • Wednesday 27 November: When No One is Watching men’s walking group, 6am, Elephant Park
  • Thursday 28 November: Orange Local Aboriginal Land Council morning tea, 10.30am, 120 Byng Street.
  • Friday 29 November: Going Nuts in the Bush, 10am, Robertson Park.
  • Sunday 1 December: Gnoo Blas Ladies Day, 9am to 3pm, Orange Showground.
  • Monday 2 December: DV Aware Training, 5.30pm, West Room, Orange Regional Gallery.
  • Wednesday 4 December: Community Morning Tea, 10.30am Orange Aboriginal Medical Service.
  • Wednesday 4 December: What can I do? Men’s Information Night, 5.30pm, CWA Hall Robertson Park.
  • Sunday 8 December: Walk for Change and Community Barbecue, 11am, Gosling Creek Reserve.
  • Tuesday 10 December: Accidental Councillor Training, 9am to 5pm, Orange Aboriginal Medical Service.
