Where we are

Situated 10 minutes southwest of Orange, Lakeview Luxury Retreat consists of three self-contained villas, specifically set up as a luxury retreat for couples. Offering a week’s worth of relation in just a few days, our cabins are one of the only properties with views to the beautiful Lake Canobolas and view up the valley to the mountain as well.

The town of Orange is renowned as Australia’s Colour City and, with its four distinct seasons, the destination offers many opportunities for visitors throughout the year, including access to a flourishing cultural scene, cosmopolitan cafes, “hatted” restaurants, boutiques shops and a fantastic array of wineries.

Lakeview Luxury Retreat was established by us (Pam & Trevor King) during 2011 (as Lakeview Luxury Cabins) and opened in November that year. The property is a third-generation family property and is located approximately 10 minutes’ drive to Orange.

The Villas

Our villas are new, purpose-built, high quality, eco-friendly and self-contained – specifically set up for couples looking to get away. They are warm in winter and cool in summer, however, for those cooler days – there is a reverse-cycle air-conditioner as well.

These luxury villas have been built in a secluded farming area, with small areas of native bushland. This gives our guests the peace and tranquillity they are looking for.

Each villa has a king bed in a separate bedroom. Wake up with views to the Lake, the birds singing and the chance of kangaroos eating grass just down the hill from your verandah.

The magnificent full bathroom – coming off each bedroom, has a separate shower and a big bath under the window. Relax with a glass of wine or ‘bubbles as you meditate on the trees and garden just outside the window.

There is a large and modern kitchen and dining area, so you can cook your breakfast, lunch or dinner, or go to one of the great restaurants or cafes in Orange. There is also a BBQ and outdoor setting on the private verandah for you to enjoy.

The wonderfully comfortable lounge area is part of the open-plan design with the kitchen and dining space. Stretch out with a good book or watch one of the blue-ray DVDs provided for your enjoyment.

Enjoy the sunset over Lake Canobolas on the verandah or from nearly all the windows inside each of the villas. There are large picture windows and doors in every room. Who needs paintings when you have these views everywhere?

In winter, enjoy the reverse cycle air conditioning in lounge-dining-kitchen area as well as underfloor heating and heated towel rails in the bathroom.

Other appliances include - microwave, hot-plates, full refrigerator, Nespresso machine, kettle, toaster, TV, DVD player, hairdryer, iron, and ironing board.

On arrival, you will enjoy a cheese platter & bottle of local wine (included in your hamper)...perhaps as you sit and watch the sunset over Lake Canobolas.

Your Breakfast (included in fee) will be a full gourmet breakfast hamper (more like a fridge full) of local produce and other yummy treats.

Green Villa

Our most private one-bedroom villa has a splash of green colour in the decor and is the closest to Lake Canobolas. Enjoy a lot of sun and natural warmth in this beautiful, luxury villa. Being the most private, it could well be one of the most romantic getaways in NSW. Therefore, it is the one we recommend for our bridal couples and wedding guests.

Red Villa

This one-bedroom villa has a splash of red colour in the decor and is surrounded by beautiful old gumtrees. It is the only villa with a gas-log fire, as it has more shade than the other two villas.

The Two-Bedroom Villa

Our newest villa is set up for two couples who enjoy travelling and holidaying together. It has a splash of orange and chocolate colours throughout the décor within this very spacious villa. Enjoy the beautiful view down the gully towards the Lake from this deluxe villa as you watch the sunset.

In this villa – each bedroom still has its own full bathroom for guests’ privacy.

Experience

You approach Lakeview on a country dirt road that winds through orchards and paddocks of cattle. Once you reach the crest of the hill and enter the property, you experience the stunning views of Lake Canobolas and across the orchards and vineyards to Mount Canobolas.

Collect your keys from reception, drive to your villa and park in the carport. Entering, you are delighted by the spacious and beautifully decorated villa, but the views are irresistible, and the tranquillity of the place engulfs you. Exploring the villa is a series of delightful discoveries – the food presented beautifully in the fridge, a bottle of local wine, the large bath under the bathroom window with luxury toiletries and the beautiful and luxurious king-sized bed.

A path through the paddock allows you to access the Lake Canobolas area for the easy walk around the lake at any time, there are refreshments at the Lakehouse Cafe and in the warmer months you can also go for a swim. Lakeview is centrally located close to wineries on the “Pinnacle Trail” and close to other wine trails in the region. Nearby Mt Canobolas has numerous walking trails.

You may get to watch the local kangaroos enjoying the peaceful environment at Lakeview. In the cooler months, you may even be lucky enough to experience snowfalls that transform the scenery. For those who want to fish, Lake Canobolas has golden perch, trout, and redfin. Lakeview is also ideally located for those who want to do cycling, mountain biking (the Orange Mountain Bike trail is across the road from the main gate of Lake Canobolas) or canoeing/kayaking.

The peace, tranquillity, seclusion, and comfort that our guests experience means that many have trouble leaving each day when they go to explore the region. This has proven to be the case – many not leaving the villas until well after 11am each day.

In the beginning

The property was purchased originally by Pam's grandfather (Sydney Stanford) in the 1930’s. He built up quite a large apple and pear orchard over the next 20 years. His two sons (Pam’s father - Ross and her Uncle Lance) continued that business over many years after he passed away in the early 1960’s. Pam grew up on the property and has always loved this particular 12 ha block, known as the ‘back paddock’, which overlooks Lake Canobolas and has amazing views up the valley to Mount Canobolas. Pam is a third generation local, committed to innovatively creating new ideas for the land she grew up on. We purchased the block from Pam’s father in 2004, then started to have our own family, so it was another seven years before the first villa was built.

We established our first one-bedroom villa in 2011, in August 2013 we opened our second one-bedroom villa, and in July 2017 we opened our third villa, this time a 2-bedroom villa designed to cater for couples who like to travel together. Each bedroom has its own full bathroom
